Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2024 Collection by Pharrell
Pharrell Williams’ Highly Anticipated Louis Vuitton Debut: A Spectacle of Style and Celebration
After much anticipation, Pharrell Williams has made his highly awaited debut as the new creative director for Louis Vuitton Menswear, and it certainly lived up to the hype. Transporting his global audience to the iconic Pont Neuf bridge in Paris, Pharrell presented his inaugural collection for the esteemed French luxury house. From start to finish, guests were treated to an unforgettable experience that began the moment they received the invitation for the Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
The invitation hinted at a theme centered around joy and love. Guests embarked on a boat journey by Musée d’Orsay, gliding through the waters before arriving at the bridge, which was adorned in gold. Drawing inspiration from the sun as a universal symbol of life, Pharrell incorporated its motif into his collection. He expressed, “In moments like this, when you’ve been chosen to do something, the sun is shining on you. The quintessential question that I ask myself all the time, and ask people I care about, is, ‘Hey, if the sun is shining on you, what would you do with the light?’ When the sun shined on me for an opportunity like this, it changed my life across the board. If I’m going to get this appointment, I’m going to use it to do two things: one, to share all my learnings as a perpetual student; and two, to share my love and appreciation. I’m choosing to shine a light back on this city, these people, all my friends here, who have kept me lifted all this time.”
Pharrell’s collection revolves around the concept of “LVERS,” representing the notion that if you appreciate Louis Vuitton, you are a lover of the curation, not just the products but also the culture that embodies a shared taste. The collection showcases a fusion of the iconic LV Damier chessboard pattern with the historic monogram. Pharrell combines the old and the new, introducing a pixelated aesthetic to his debut collection. He explains, “The fact that it has the chessboard setup, we could use the grid as a platform to play with different artistic techniques. The first was to treat the blocks like 8-bit Atari graphics. I worked with ET Artist, who’s really good at it. The super powerful one is the Damoflage, which fuses Damier and camo. I wanted to make a print that makes people say, ‘Okay, that’s P. And that’s Damier.'”
The star-studded event saw the presence of renowned celebrities such as Jared Leto, Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Naomi Campbell, Lewis Hamilton, Maluma, J Balvin, Jaden Smith, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Beyoncé, and even JAY-Z. Pharrell’s influence spans far and wide, as he seamlessly weaves together multiple elements of music, artistry, and fashion in his show. Prominent designers like Jeremy Scott, JW Anderson, and longtime friend NIGO were also spotted in the front row, showing their support for Pharrell. The show itself was a spectacle, culminating in a finale performance by Voice of Fire, singing their collaborative track with Pharrell, “Joy.” The night continued with an energetic after-party, where Pharrell and JAY-Z treated guests to some of their greatest hits, truly ending the night on a high note.
Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton debut runway show was not only a celebration of his own successes but also a heartfelt tribute to “the giant before me,” Virgil Abloh. Pharrell holds Abloh close to his heart when creating for the house, emphasizing that his predecessor will never be forgotten.
